As the work place changes, so do the requirements and expectations. Today’s blog is about the weight of soft skills and how they impact you during a job interview. Even though education looks good on a resume, it doesn’t mean that you will land a job immediately.

Soft skills are attributes to a candidate that can make them more favorable to a hiring manager. Some soft skills include:

  • Strong work ethic
  • Positive attitude
  • Time management
  • Problem-solving
  • Creativity
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Adaptability
  • Communication

  • You may be thinking that these skills have little to do with work, however these skills build character and personality of an employee.

    For example, an employee with all the degrees and certifications may lack the skills to connect interpersonally with teammates and other departments of a company. With that lack this can cause problems with communication of ideas and work. An employee that is comfortable with holding a conversation and build relationships at work, can excel better in the workplace.

    Get better, get stronger

    Soft skills can be seen as “ordinary” however they can be improved daily with effort! Practice and build habits for yourself as an employee:

  • Ask others if you can help
  • Notice small things in the office even if it’s not “your job”
  • Contribute to conversations
  • Research on work topics so you can bring up solutions to the team

  • These small changes to your daily work routine will help you build on top of your soft skills.
